Michael Earp, Wayne Murdoch and Ange Bailey discuss the value of records being collected, conserved, transmitted and controlled by the folk whose actions and memories informed those records, with Dennis Altman in the chair.
Michael Earp is a non-binary writer and bookseller living in Naarm. They are the editor of Everything Under the Moon: Fairy tales in a queerer light and Kindred: 12 Queer #LoveOzYA Stories. Their writing has also appeared in Archer, The Age, PopMatters, The Victorian Writer and Aurealis.
Wayne Murdoch has had a life-long interest in Australian social history and has concentrated on Australian queer history for the past 30 years. He is particularly interested in hidden history of gay men the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.This is his first time at the Booktown Festival.
Angela Bailey is a curator, photographer and creative producer exploring and interpreting our rich, diverse queer histories and culture by creating exhibitions, discourse and public programs of engagement. She's a recent creative fellow at Arts Centre Melbourne, and is currently a Curator at the SLV and vice-president of the Australian Queer Archives.
The son of Jewish refugees, Dennis Altman first received attention with his book Homosexual: Oppression and Liberation in 1972. He's written more than a dozen since, culminating in Death in the Sauna. He is Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at LaTrobe University and Patron of the Australian Queer Archives and the Pride Foundation.
