Alice Pung, Tony Birch, Joanna Murray-Smith are writers who’ve had works on the Year 12 syllabus. They’ll discuss what it takes to keep the next generation reading - with Rebecca Fraser in the chair.
Alice Pung has written two memoirs, an essay collection and edited two anthologies. Her prize-winning debut novel Laurinda was followed by One Hundred Days, subsequently shortlisted for the 2022 Miles Franklin Award. She is Artist in Residence at Janet Clarke Hall and Adjunct Professor at RMIT’s School of Media and Communication.
Tony Birch is an award winning author, activist, historian and essayist. He was recently appointed the third Boisbouvier Chair in Australian Literature at the University of Melbourne.
Joanna Murray-Smith is a playwright, screenwriter and novelist. Her plays have been produced around the world, including on Broadway and the West End, the National Theatre, London and in many languages. Her plays Honour, Berlin and Bombshells have been on education curricula.
Rebecca Fraser lives and writes on Bunurong Land. Her publications include four middle grade novels, a short fiction collection, and over sixty short stories, poems and articles. She has won and/or been shortlisted for the 2023 Readings Children’s Prize, Aurealis, Adaptable: Turning Page to Screen, Australian Shadows and Ditmars www.rebeccafraser.com
