Our world is brimming with stories that need to be told. Nova Weetman, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Sam Drummond and Sarah Myles discuss how they each went about transforming experience into a tale with a beginning, a middle and an end with Carmel Bird steering the dialogue.
Nova Weetman writes both fiction and non-fiction. Her recent essays on aspects of grief, loss and family life have been widely published. She has also published many novels for children and young adults including Sick Bay. Her new adult memoir is Love, Death & Other Scenes.
Maxine Beneba Clarke's work includes the fiction collection Foreign Soil, memoir The Hate Race, children's picturebook The Patchwork Bike and poetry collections How Decent Folk Behave and It's the Sound of the Thing: 101 new poems for young people. She is Poet in Residence at Melbourne University.
Sam Drummond grew up in Castlemaine before moving to Melbourne to pursue his studies. He began his career in media but now specialises in human rights law. When not parenting, writing or working, he enjoys showing his daughter Central Victoria, as well as places he didn't experience as a kid.
Sarah Myles writes about the complexity of family set against global conflict. She isthe author of The Wolf Hour longlisted for the Davitt Award, and Transplanted. Former nurse turned writer, she has been writing and reviewing fiction for many years, conducted readings for writing courses and mentors emerging writers.
Carmel Bird has published twelve novels, nine story collections, and several works of non-fiction, including her 2021 memoir Telltale. Three of her novels were short-listed for the Miles Franklin Award and in 2016 she received the Patrick White Literary Award. In 2023 she published Love Letter to Lola and picturebook Arabella.
